A unique find in the Vail Valley, Vail Racquet Club boasts an appealing feature none of the other local resorts can claim – 20 sprawling acres of spectacular Colorado beauty. The 2,800 square foot private health club bustles year-round with indoor and outdoor fitness, spin, Pilates and yoga classes. And the 25-meter heated outdoor pool stays open for the ski season too, though you may opt for one of the 20-person outdoor hot tubs instead (one for adults, the other for families). Let a pro work out the kinks in your shoulders and back with a soothing massage after an overly ambitious day on the mountain. Or let the sauna and eucalyptus steam room work their rejuvenation magic. Ten tennis courts (including three clay) are surrounded by views so incredible, they may throw your game off a bit. (If you feel bad blaming the mountains, you could always play the altitude card.) There’s an onsite pro, clinics and lessons for all ages, a ball machine and training wall. Once you’re all tennis drilled out, head back to your condo and gather the fixings for a BBQ on the Great Lawn and flagstone patio. Or if it’s ski season, Blu’s is open for dinner. Grab a table downstairs or settle in upstairs at the neighborhood-type bar to catch the game. If you plan to head into town, you’re right on Vail’s free shuttle route for easy access to Vail Village and Lionshead.

One- to three-bedroom alpine chalet-style condos and three-bedroom townhomes are all equipped with well appointed kitchens for casual family dinners around the table, as you swap semi-true tales from the day’s adventures. There’s coffee in the lobby every morning, if your crew’s still snoozing, or if the weather’s nice enough, you can head out to your private deck or patio until the little ones come looking for breakfast. Each vacation residence has a fireplace or wood stove, with complimentary firewood to keep you toasty during ski season. And the views are phenomenal – you can see cascading ice or waterfalls from your windows, depending on the season.

Enjoy East Vail’s natural beauty right outside your door. Gore Creek winds through the resort (take the footbridge between the condo and townhome areas). Or venture a little further – there are two Vail Shuttle stops onsite to get you around town. Summer Jeep tours treat you to stunning views from 12,000 feet up. Spend the morning exploring, then hit the river for a rafting tour. Hire a private fly fishing guide, or try a fishing/paintball combo. During the winter season, you can take half- or full-day snowmobiling trips starting from historic Camp Hale (originally built for military winter and mountain training during World War II). Choose the Top of the Rockies tour (the most popular), and cruise through endless open meadows, stopping for pictures of four mountain ranges, including the Continental Divide. Door-to-door transportation, snowsuits, boots, helmets and even lunch (on the full-day tour) are all provided. The concierge can get you set up.
