Eagle Point Resort treats you to a quiet spot tucked along the banks of Gore Creek, with convenient shuttle access to the slopes. Help the extra-eager skiers and boarders in your crew get off to an early start, then escape to a fireside seat in the cozy lobby and catch up on the day’s news over a second cup of coffee. You and the other non-morning-embracers can meet them for lunch mid-mountain before conquering as many runs as you can before catching the last chair up. Spend aprés ski reliving the day’s most spectacular terrain park feats, then head back to change for the indoor/outdoor pool and hot tubs. Pencil in the weekly seasonal activities like the onsite Welcome Reception every Saturday evening. And if the weather’s cooperating, the BBQs by the pool beckon – see if anyone’s up for a friendly grill-off. (May the best burgers win.)
Inviting, traditional one- and two-bedroom condos are 650 to 865 square feet and sleep four to six happy-but-weary skiers, boarders, hikers and semi-pro fly-tyers. Fully-equipped kitchens include all of the appliances, gadgets, pots and pans you’ll need to make your secret-recipe red sauce. Full-sized refrigerators have plenty of space for everyone’s favorite salad dressings and veggie dips. And freezers are perfect for storing dessert – popsicles for the kids (and a Ben & Jerry’s stash for the grown-ups). Catch the shuttle service to the grocery store to keep things super simple. Plus, daily housekeeping is available, so you’re off the hook in that department (celebrate accordingly). Peruse the collection of borrowable movies, books and games (Monopoly, anyone?). Then once you’ve trounced your opponents, cashing out as a full-fledged real estate mogul, declare it “start time” for movie night. Play a quick game of Rock, Paper, Scissors to determine the movie-chooser.
Primetime for skiing and snowboarding Vail or Beaver Creek extends all the way through early spring. On your off-mountain days, go ice skating in Vail Square, or give winter fishing or snowshoeing a try. There are tons of summer recreation options as well. Try rock climbing, mountain biking and white-water rafting for starters. Looking for something a little more low key? Stop by The Colorado Ski & Snowboard Museum, and poke around all six galleries, exploring Vail’s skiing and snowboarding history through narratives, artifacts and film documentaries. Featured galleries include the Winter Olympics, Ski Patrol, Hall of Fame and the 10th Mountain Division. Visit Lionshead Village for swanky restaurants and posh shops. All that browsing making you hungry? Head to Tavern on the Square, inside the Arrabelle at Vail Square. The Lobster Mac & Cheese is a must.
