Though the crescent-shaped Hanalei Bay may look peaceful and relaxing, you're missing out completely if you just sit there and sunbathe! Kauai's north shore was made for the active traveler.

Play a round or two on the prestigious Prince Golf Course at Princeville for ultimate bragging rights among all your golf buddies back home. This sweeping mountain course has been named one of the country's best by almost every golf publication. Or sail high above the trees on one of the area's many scenic zip line courses. If the waves beckon, you can take your pick of windsurfing, stand-up paddleboarding, surfing, or kiteboarding. Or, take a dip underneath them to explore the thriving undersea world of the north shore's protected lagoons and coral reefs.

And if you're truly adventurous, you can hike the rugged Kalalau Trail, an 11-mile stretch that takes you to some of the most remote and beautiful corners of the island. Once you've tried at least one of the north shore's many thrills, you've definitely earned the right to kick back and relax on Lumahai Beach, where South Pacific was filmed. It's an exceptional place to work on that natural Hawaiian tan — the ultimate Kauai souvenir.
