Make-a-Wish: Riley and Dora the Explorer

Posted Vacatia, News & Updates by Trevor Cohen on November 8, 2013

For our next Make-a-Wish partnership, we're sending Riley to Universal Studios in Orlando, Florida. Riley’s wish is to meet Dora, his favorite cartoon character. Riley is mostly non-verbal, but very friendly and expressive. As his family gets ready for their November trip, we would like to show our support by offering suggestions of fun things for him to do at Universal Studios.

Here’s what we came up with, but feel free to share your own advice. Please be mindful of the fact that Riley will probably be traveling the park in a wheel-chair.

Superstar Character Breakfast

Every morning at 9 am, from Thursday to Saturday, Universal offers a breakfast hosted by characters from Nickelodeon and other animated films, such as Despicable Me and Hop. This is a great place for Riley to meet Dora and Diego up close. It’s a comfortable setting where the characters make rounds at every table. This would be a great start to a day at Universal!

Harry Potter World

Few worlds inspire magic and imagination in a kid’s mind, quite like Harry Potter. This amazing recreation of Hogwarts and Diagon Alley features the excitement, artifacts and even food of JK Rowling’s masterpiece. We hope Riley is able to visit Harry Potter and the Forbidden Journey, a ride that tours the classrooms and hallways of Hogwarts Academy.

Superstar Parade

The Superstar Parade is another chance for Riley to see Dora. Every day at 5 pm, hundreds of characters take to the streets of Universal. Music, floats and performances roll from Beetlejuice and Louie’s Italian Restaurant and finish at Production Central.

Riley can also see Dora and Diego at the pop-up meet-and-greet, every day at 2:45 pm right by Mel’s Drive-In.

These are just a few of many possible things for Riley to do and see during his trip to Universal Orlando. Maybe he’ll even have the time to visit Disney World and beyond. Please let us know if you have any recommendations for Riley and his family. Your support will make a difference!
