Alec’s Adventure to Kauai

Alec Simas, 13, is an interesting kid. As his first Make-a-Wish choice, he picked the Island of Bora Bora in French Polynesia. “They have everything to do there, watersports, ATV and relaxing,” he said in his request. He eventually settled on Kauai, which has a similar tropical allure, and something better.

Alec’s real passion is golf. In fact, his second wish was to see the Master’s Golf Tournament in Georgia. He wanted a chance to watch his favorite players. Alec admires some of the game's rising stars from the 24-year-old Rickie Fowler, to the inspirational Adam Scott, who was the first Australian to win the tournament in its 77-year history.

Kauai, in a way, combines Alec’s desire for a tropical island retreat, with his love for golf. This December, we provided his family with logding at the Hanalei Bay Resort. Set above the Pacific, he’ll be looking out onto sweeping views of the ocean and surrounding mountains.

Most importantly, the resort is just five minutes away from three spectacular golf courses. The Ocean Nine and Woods Nine are part of the Makai Golf Club and were designed by the famous Robert Trent Jones Jr. The Prince Golf Course at Princeville was ranked as Hawaii’s best course by Golf Digest.

We hope that Alec gets a chance to play on all of these courses. He’ll also be next to the beach at Hanalei Bay where he can swim, snorkel and surf, as well a national wildlife refuge that stretches all the way to the summit of Kauai's volcano.

We hope he has an experience that stays with him for a lifetime. Alec has Leukemia and we wish for the memory of this trip to give him even a little bit of strength in his courageous struggle.

Please send your love his way. We’ll all keep Alec in our hearts as he explores Hawaiian paradise.
